Tritons start Big West Play with Cal Poly, UC Davis

La Jolla, California – – – The UC San Diego men's tennis welcomes Cal Poly and UC Davis this weekend to Northview tennis courts to start the large western part of the season. Cal Poly visits on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. and UC Davis will come to the city on Monday at 1:00 p.m.

When the tritons enter the Big West Play, note that UC San Diego has completed a four -year transition process to Division I. This means that 2024-25 is the first year. This year's tennis championships of the Big West Herren & Women's Women will take place from April 24th to 27th in the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.

The Tritons defended their home places on Thursday with a 6-1 win against Villanova. UC San Diego claimed the colon and five of the six singles games in victory.

The tritons took to the streets and were defeated 4: 1. Zach Pellouchoud got the team's only win.

Reflection of the rank
This year's team comprises five seniors, two juniors, a second and three newcomers. Eight return from last season with six tritons that complete their college career in 2024. California is at home for everyone to three members of the 2025 team.



Meet the newcomers
In his fifth year as the NCAA Division I program and his first as full members, the Tennist team of UC San Diego is pleased to present its three-person Scholar athlete signing of the class of David Adamson (San Diego, California), Robert Freedman (San Diego, California) and James Krantz (Newport Beach, California).



Head coach Timmer Will
It is ready in his 13th season as head coach of the UC San Diego men's tennis program. He has been with the Tritons for 24 years and previously worked as a co -trainer. The Division II teams from Willing went 84-70 (.545) and qualified five times for the NCAA night. Since entering Division I, Willing has improved the team as a whole every season.



Top of the line -up

Zach Pellouchoud And Pelayo Rodriguez Return this year after led the team's double line -up in 2024. The duo ended the duo with an 11: 8 record. Top -singles players are also returning Carson Lee And Diogo Tinoco. Lee played in 1 or 2 in everyone last season, with Tinoco performing in number 2 or 3 in every game.



Academic recognition
In 2024, Zach Pellouchoud was appointed an ITA scholar athlete. Charles Qian And Pelayo Rodriguez were appointed to the All-Academic team by Big West Spring and were accompanied by four other members of this year's squad in the list of honor of the Big West Commissioner.

Why the tritons?
The triton is described as the descendants of Poseidon and amphitrite, a demigod of the sea with a lower part of the body and that of a fish. It is known as a powerful and violent nautical declarer. In view of the proximity of UC San Diego to the Pacific Ocean and its connections to the world-famous Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the Triton became our mascot in 1964.

About UC San Diego athletics

After two decades as one of the most successful programs in NCAA Division II, the UC San Diego Intercollegiate Athletics Program began in 2020 as a member of the BIG West conference in the NCAA Division I. The 23-sports tritons earned almost 150 individual National Championships in the Divisions II.
