Preparation for the running fire season: tips and warnings when the temperatures rise | News

Southern Oregon, – The Rogue Valley has recently seen a few sunny spring weather, and the residents may also have noticed smoky conditions in the air, since burns prescribed in the region, including parts of North California, take place.

These controlled burns are an essential instrument for the prevention of forest fire, but experts remind us that the fire break can be closer than we think.

With the warmer temperatures in February and March, fire officers ask the residents to prepare for the upcoming forest fire season. Natalie Weber, public information officer of the Oregon Department of Forestry, said: “When we start seeing these warmer days that sometimes take place in February and March, this increases our chances of firing and spreading. Fire only lives under warm, windy conditions that we typically see here in spring.”

When spring approaches, it is important to take steps to protect houses and properties. Figure experts recommend clearing dead vegetation, maintaining the houses that are capable of defending and preserving lawns. These efforts can significantly reduce the risk of forest fires that spread to residential areas.

The early warmth in combination with dry conditions means that the fire potential is high. Firefighters emphasize that the preparation can now help protect the community when the fire season is approaching. It is time to take measures before the summer heat arrives.
