San Francisco announces a large opening date of the Highway Park, but looks like the community departments

The department for relaxation and park in San Francisco described it as “the largest pedestrian project in the history of California”.

On Saturday, the city officially announced that the Great Highway Park will be opened on April 12th. At the celebration, the department for relaxation and park encouraged the public to take part in a name competition for the new park, and provided some examples from the 250 submissions already received.

“The Great Parkway and one that I happened to happen,” said Phil Ginsburg, General Manager of San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, cheered as dozens of followers.

While many are enthusiastic about the new park, not everyone in the community is ready to use the change.

Patricia Arack, who is in the 80s and is disabled, commented concerns about the permanent closure of the large highway.

Arack, who rarely leaves her home these days, fears that the closure will make it even more difficult to get outside.

“When I try to cross the street, I can't get out of the way. It makes it very dangerous. If you have heavy traffic, you will have more accidents,” said Arack.

Arack believes that closing the four -lane road will only push more cars onto your street that runs right next to the large highway.

“One day I counted cars, there were 700 cars at my house in an hour,” said Arack.

In November the voters in San Francisco Approved sentence kWhich permanently closes the two miles long distance of the large highway and turns them into a brand new park. Although around 55 percent of the voters supported proposition K, the election results showed that most residents who lived near the large highway were against their permanent closure.

A neighbor on the Lower Great Highway shared a surveillance material of surveillance material about 10 days ago and shows a car that has its parked truck.

He also provided another video from 2021 from a vehicle that turned and hit the same truck that was parked in front of his house.

The neighbor who did not want to state his name said that there have been a total of four accidents from his truck in recent years and had made concerns about additional traffic in the neighborhood.

“Supervisor (Joel) Engardio and the mayor are working to quickly implement various changes to the traffic improvement in the region to try protecting the street,” said Senator Scott Wiener, a supporter of Proposition K.

Followers of the park argue that the speed stays on the lower large motorway will help to slow cars.

“I live on Lower Great Highway, the traffic is even on the weekend when it is a park.

Instead, the supporters look forward to the new park as a room for walking, cycling and community accumulations.

“We all wanted more spaces in which we can come together and a community. And that is,” said Heidi Moseson, a large neighbor in the highway.

However, opponents like Arack hesitate to celebrate.

“There is security, environmental pollution and quality of life,” summarized Arack and emphasized its persistent concerns.

The city invites the public to submit name ideas for the new park by March 16. The final name is expected to be selected in early April, shortly before the park was opened on April 12th.
