Firefly began as a company that focused on rockets – the piece of aviation and space equipment, which is supposed to bring satellites and spaceships (such as Mondlander) to the orbit.

Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly, told CNN that learning to create a rocket that can make it until orbit can offer a decisive know-how that informs the company on board the Blue Ghost.

“We use the same (setting control) engines that have a flight on this rocket. We also use (reaction control) engines that we built in the house and were designed by the same people who design our rocket engines, ”said Kim.

“This reduces the risk and uses a large part of the commonality, design and expertise,” he added.

Firefly Test fires its rocket engines on a spacious ranch in the tiny community of Brigg, Texas (which is only the street from the hometown Liberty Hill). CNN has visited the site several times over the years and observed how it has developed from a rocket engine test stand into a functioning factory that introduces rockets in full size.

For the last visit of CNN in 2022, the engine test was still right next to a cow pasture. We witnessed a engine test in 2019. The cows seemed remarkably unhindered.

The engines mentioned were built at the Briggs location (but not tested). However, the large main engine in the Blue Ghost's Center was built by a supplier.
