The road to the 97th Academy Awards was filled with twists.

“Emilia Pérez”, a seriomes musical about transgender identity, began as a top candidate Hollywood's prize. But controversial tweets from the main actress of the film violated his Oscar chances and opened an opening for a trio recognized title, all of which compete for the status of the front-runner: “Anora”, “The Brutalist”, “Conclave”. The ultimate best picture -Victor is everyone's assumption.

In the meantime, Los Angeles still stirs from devastating forest fires that have decimated entire districts, including areas in which entertainment experts live and work. The industry also brought the long economic effects of pandemic, the authors in 2023, strike and growing competition through non -traditional media.

Conan O'Brien is scheduled for his first excursion as an Oscars Emcee. But he is no stranger to the world of awards after he previously held the Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006. In 1995 and 2013, he also led the dinner of the correspondents of the White House.

In an interview with the New York Times, O'Brien said that he took the opportunity to celebrate the year in the cinema.

“I still think that the Oscars have meaning. Really good cinema – especially when it comes from different countries, currently has an incredible amount of response and meaning, and this is the night that celebrates it, ”said O'Brien.

“For me it makes sense to be part of it. I don't consider it an ungrateful task – even if I do it once and nobody is interested in the fact that I do it again, it is a meaningful experience for me, ”he added.

Any best picture forecasts?

The race for the best picture was enforced according to the “Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón according to old social media posts. The scandal created a new dynamic for the crazy romantic dramedy “Anora”, the epic “The Brutalist” and the papal thriller “Conclave”.

All three films did a good job on the pre-oscars Awards Circuit. “The Brutalist” was best grabbed by drama film at The Globes. “Conclave” awarded the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAS) and the best ensemble trophy at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards top awards.

In the days before the ceremony, “Anora” seems to be the easy favorite, but it could easily be released by “The Brutalist” or “Conclave” -not to mention Dark Horse candidates such as the Bob Dylan -biopic “A Complete Unreach” or the lively music “Wicked”.

The four other nomines for the best picture are the science fiction saga “Dune: Part Two”, the historical drama “I am still here”, the literary adaptation “Nickel Boys” and the satire “The Substance”.

Who are this year's acting ranger?

In the best actress category, Demi Moore (“The substance”) seems to have a dynamic after winning the best comedy actress at the Golden Globe Awards and equivalent honors at the SAG Awards and the Critics Choice Awards.

But don't count Mikey Madison (“Anora”), who triumphed at the BAFTAS and the independent spirit awards or Fernanda Torres (I'm still here ”), who won the best drama actress at The Globes.

In the best actor race, Adrien Brody (“The brutalist”) is well positioned after taking prices from the Golden Globes, the Baftas and the Critics Choice Awards. Brody's closest competition comes from Timothée Chalamet (“A complete unknown”), whose portrayal of Bob Dylan brought him a SAG statuette at the beginning of this month.

In the meantime, Kieran Culkin (“A real pain”) and Zoe Saldaña (“Emilia Pérez”) seem to be locks for the best supporting actor and the best supporting actress.

Will there be appearances?

In a departure from the latest ceremonies, this year's television broadcast will not contain any live appearances of the five melodies that have been nominated for the best original song.

However, the producers have invited “Wicked” stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande to carry out a medley of numbers from the hit musical. (“Wicked” was distributed by Universal Pictures, a unit of the parent company of NBC News, NBCuniversal.)

In addition, Queen Latifah will be available to appreciate the late music industry Maestro Quincy Jones, who died in November. The audience can also expect appearances by hip-hop stars Lisa and Doja Cat and the British singer-songwriter Raye.
