Lower representations of both teams meant that the match had no quality and control, although the chances were only a few and far apart. You UTD had a few close calls in the first half, with Rasmus Hojlund turning a broad and Christian Eriksen that forced Bernd Leno a rescue, but it was the visitors who first beat.

One corner was reversed again United's when Andreas Pereia's cross found Rodrigo Muniz, who pressed it onto Calvin Bassey to nod in the opener.

Ruben Amorim's side needed a reaction and was lackluster in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Alejandro Garnacho was called and helped to send the compensation company to Diogo Dalot, who withdrew it for Bruno Fernandes to roll home.

No goals followed, and the draw was decided by a punishment in which Bernd Leno saved two penalties to send Fulham through.
