LGBTQ+ groups compete in Island St. Patrick's Day Parade

LGBTQ+ groups marched for the first time in his 60 -year history in St. Patrick's Day Parade from Staten Island.

The Staten Island St. Patrick's Day Parade this year was a little different from the past few years.

This year the Pride Center of Staten Island was invited to march under its own banner. It was a long time ago and it finally came together.

The Pride Group could not have been able to do so in recent years because the organizers had argued that the parade was a religious and LGBTQ lifestyle that had come into conflict with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

“It was something that started before I even joined the Pride Center, so I stand on the shoulders of others. Today is an amazing day, so I will march and be really proud,” said Carol Bullock, director of the Pride Center of State Island, Carol Bullock.

Who came to this year's parade?

The Mayor of New York City, Adams, came to the parade to show his support from Marsching with the Pride Center and his banner.

“The LGBTQ+ community is something that we have always stood for. I am simply very proud that their resistance has shown that they will always win when they have the right income. That is what we do,” said Adams.

The parade had more than 80 organizations marched and brought out thousands of people in the community who set the streets.
