Pitt State Women Cruise to another record that sets Miaa title

Maryville, Mon. -The indoor lighting athletics of Pittsburg State University had a record day in the Breezation of the Miaa Indoor Championship on Sunday (March 2) in Hughes Fieldhouse on the Northwest Missouri State University.

Pitt State ended the three-day meeting with a Miaa record 222 points and defeated second place in Northwest Missouri with 100 points. The Bearcats ended the meeting with 112 points. Washburn University scored 103.5 points to achieve third place.

Pitt State scored the highest score in the history of the Miaa Indoor Championships for a second year in a row and exceeded the previous high point total of 221 points that the Gorillas set out at the 2024 Miaa Indoor Championships in Topeka.


The gorillas secured five individual Miaa crowns on this day: Kate Strader in the mileage (4: 50.85); Kayvon Nubine in the 60-meter hurdles (8.39); Diandrenique Gaines in the 200 meters (23.86); Paige Mullen in the 3,000 meters (9: 44.15); And Auna Childress in triple diving (42-2.25).


Mullen received the Miaa High Point Award with 28 points at the meeting. Strader broke her own school record with her winning time in the mile.


The Gorillas also registered four Miaa second place on Sunday: Mullen in the mile (4: 54.08); Isabelle Peters in 60mh (8.45); Gaines in the 60 m (7.41); and the 4x400m relay of Maddie O'NeillGaines, Kinleigh Hall And Jamiya Morgan (3: 44.89).

Other goal scorers of the Sunday points were: Morgan, 60 m (eight, 7.73), 200 m (fourth 24.05); Hall, 400 m (sixth, 56.14); Olivia Lowrey400 m (eight, 57.45); Claire Bruening800 m (third, 2: 12.12); Marissa Dick3,000 m (sixth, 9: 54.94); Lily BrownTriple Jump (third, 39-4); Makayla PavelkaTriple Jump (fourth, 39-2.25); Kinley SmithTriple Jump (sixth, 38-2.75); And Abby LasiterShot Put (eight, 44-9.5).

The gorillas have won their fourth title in a row in the past nine years and the eighth Miaa Indoor Crown. Pitt State had won four indoor titles in a row between 2017 and 2020 before the UCM claimed the crown in 2021.
