Update: Several fire departments react to 24 hectares of forest fire in Sussex County | Latest news

Seaford, DE – Several fire brigades from all over Delaware reacted to a large forest fire in Sussex County on Saturday.

According to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, several fire brigades from all over Delaware reacted to a large forest and brush fire on Ponderosa Drive and Old Furnace Road in Seaford on March 1st.

About 9 fire departments of the Sussex district were asked to respond to the incident, including the Indian River volunteer fire. The state authorities included the Delaware State Forestry Services.

Firefighters from the Seaford fire brigade say that the crews worked over 4 hours to contain the fire. The incident was then “handed over to the Delawarware forestry for large dozer operations”. According to the SFD, the fire extended about 24 acres.

The Indian River Volunteer Fire Company reports that the incident started as a result of a “culinary misfortune in the forest during the preparation of lunch”.

In addition to the Ponderosa Dr. Fire gave the IRVFC a second incident in the Susan Beach Road in Laurel, Delaware.

Update:

On Sunday evening, the Seaford volunteer fire brigade announced that there is smoke advice on the Concord Pond Road and the Old Furnace Road.

SFD says: “The forest fire included on Saturday, March 1, has Hot Spots in the large area. The fire brigade and the state forestry will observe and delete hotspots when they become a problem.”
