Selena Gomez and Karla Sofia Gascon become viral to get an unpleasant exchange at Oscars

Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón made headlines for the false reasons at the Oscars 2025, since their short and visibly tense exchange according to Karla's controversy of social media became viral.

The two actresses, who played the leading role together in the celebrated music criminal drama Emilia Pérez, shared a moment in the audience who quickly laid the Internet.

A simple kiss on the cheek that had exchanged when they greeted themselves over their seats triggered a frenzy of speculation, with the fans dismantled every detail of their interaction.

Karla, which comes from Spain, was a major topic of conversation in this price season after being nominated for her role as a drug manager in the best actress category, who falsifies his own death to convert into a woman.

While her nomination was a historic moment, the celebrations were soon overshadowed by repeated tweets, which contained inflammatory remarks about Islam, Black Lives Matter and even Selena itself.

The counter reaction was quick, and Karla decided to keep out of the price circuit largely after the controversy.

Until Sunday evening it was unclear whether she would take part in the Oscars at all. She finally skipped the red carpet, but performed for the ceremony, which led to Selena at the now notorious moment.

When her uncomfortable greeting was caught in front of the camera, the fans wasted no time to transform the exchange into virus memes.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) joked that Karla whispered: “The bomb will be on the way in 45 minutes. Leave the event location in a few years ”, a contribution that achieved more than 23,000 likes in less than two hours.

However, others were outraged that Selena interacted with Karla at all, with a fan wrote: “Selena should stop talking to her … after everything she did!”

The tension was not only between the co-stars of the Emilia Pérez-Selsbst Oscars host Conan O'Brien aimed at Karla's controversy in his opening monologue.

When the camera cut to Karla, she smiled tense before Conan added: “Karla, when she tweet over the Oscars, is my name Jimmy Kimmel.” The moment was laughed nervously by the audience.

The controversy broke out last month when the Muslim writer Sarah Hagi unveiled several problematic social media contributions from Karla, some of whom went back from 2020.

In a tweet, Karla seemed to express and write xenophobic views of the Muslim population in Spain: “I'm sorry. Is it just my impression, or is there more Muslims in Spain? Every time I picked up my daughter from school, there are more women with their hair and races up to the Hersen. Next year. Next English, we will teach Arabic.”

Her tweets about the Black Lives Matt movement also appeared again, including one in which she released the importance of George Floyd's death.

“I really think that very few people have ever taken care of George Floyd, a drug addict, but his death serves to demonstrate again that there are people who still consider black people as monkeys without rights and consider police officers as assassins. They are both wrong,” she wrote.

Karla also had the most shocking in a tweet from 2022 about Selena, who referred her rumored feud with Justin Bieber's wife Hailey Bieber. “She is a rich rat that plays the poor bastard whenever she can and will never stop bothering her ex-boyfriend and his wife,” Karla mocked at the time.
