Marquette marks ashes on Wednesday and start of Lent

Wednesday, March 5, is the ashes Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. The Christians mark the beginning of their fast disciplines, fasting and alms by receiving ashes on their heads – the sign of the conversion of the heart.

The Ministry of Campus offers a variety of services on Wednesday. Everyone is cordially invited to participate; You don't have to be Catholic to get ashes:

  • 7:30 a.m. – Mass in the chapel of the Holy Family
  • Lunch – trade fair in the chapel of the Holy Family
  • 4 p.m. – Ecumenical prayer service in the chapel of the Holy Family
  • 7 p.m. – Mass in the chapel of the Holy Family
  • 5 p.m. – Misa en EspaƱol in the St. Joan the Arc Chapel
  • 10 p.m. – Mass in the St. Joan the Arc Chapel

In addition, the church of the Gesu Messe offers the distribution of the ash at 7 a.m., 10:05 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

As a reminder, the Ascher Wednesday is a day of penance and all Roman Catholics aged 14 and over are obliged to forego meat. The Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast.
