Prime Video UK Head Chris Bird steps back

Chris Bird, the director of Prime Video UK, has decided to withdraw from the role after more than 14 years and leave the company.

The news was announced in an internal memo, the Brigette Ricou-Bellan, the General Manager of Prime Video EU, was sent to the employees and found that Bird has been with Amazon since he took over the leadership of the British team in 2021.

“During this time, Chris contributed to developing Prime Video UK into one of the most influential streaming services in Great Britain and monitoring important milestones such as the recent start of the UEFA champion league, the takeover of Bray Studios and in the government selection in order to demonstrate the importance of PV UK for the UK film and TV industry,” wrote them.

“Cooperation with our content and studios partners at starts such as 'The Rig', 'The Devil's Hour' and of course 'Clarkson's Farm' played a major role in the establishment of Prime video as a first -class entertainment destination in Great Britain. We are very grateful for all of his contribution to the PV business and for Amazon, and we wish him all the best. ”

In a message to his colleagues, Bird thought about the seismic changes that had taken place in the industry since his first start.

“When I came to a crazy little start-up called Lovefilm for the first time in 2004 (which was recorded in Prime Video in 2010), our goal was to use new technologies to help customers go to film and television in a deeper, more convenient and better way,” he wrote. “We took care of having a large selection of programming to be innovative in the name of customers and refresh them with a constantly refreshing offer. One day we dreamed to make ours own UK TV series. It is now incredibly worthwhile to look back and to see how we stood for these principles, built a world faithful business and hundreds of millions of customers are so well served with so much. “

Bird will leave the Prime Video later this month. Ricou-Bellan notes that a search for his successor would start shortly.
