David Lynch – Part 2 – Moviejawn

Film: Twin Peaks: The return – “Episode 8”
Briefly to observe: Fire (Pozar) (2015) or The secret of the see hand (2020) – Look here on the criterion channel and here on YouTube

This is a bit fraudulent because Twin Peaks: The return not technically A film (despite everything that some publications could say), and therefore an episode of the series is not a function. But The returnThe last of Lynch's main works deserves a scream, especially in view of the passion, which merged so much of what Lynch represented. It is the highlight of five decades with “Episode 8” as a top. Even if you haven't seen The returnYou have probably heard of the triumphs of this episode, the elements of Fantasy, the Trinity test, soot demons and other Touchstones of contains Peak-Specific tradition, which is a little too much layered to deal in this room. All you really need to know is that it is one of the most remarkable works by Lynch, a real miracle of the small screen and probably the main reason that people still argue about The return be a film.

The true entry point of this episode is the series, Twin PeaksWhat you can't really refer to a certain lynch short or commercial or a concert. But if you want to test the water how much you appreciate this era of Lynch's work, these short films give you a taste. First is Fire (Pozar)A 10-minute animated short film, which shows something strange, to float from heaven and a picturesque, pastoral environment. It hovers a bit and is connected by floating eyes before “rocks” fall from the sky and create fire. We withdraw to recognize that we observe this game through the eyes of a crying face that loosens and is replaced by dancing shadow figures. It is difficult to explain how this refers to “Episode 8” without seeing this episode, but knowing that there is a certain aesthetic and emotional connection in which the figures are similar to the soot demons.

The second short film is The secret of the see handWhat came out of it The return. It opens with one hand with an eye in front of a curtain before an egg manifests itself on the middle screen and excludes a strange beetle -like creature. The egg then turns into a face, then a mouth before a golden bladder appears out of the cracks and flies out of it. This reminds even more direct of the sequence of “Episode 8”, in which we see how a similar scene with Laura Palmer, the cosmos and the origins of the evil or some and in a similar stage-like environment.

When you learn how to deal with Lynch deeper, many of these connections between short projects and feature films are short -lived and almost spiritual. It is difficult to pull a hard border between any two things that Lynch made, but it is easy to see how everything is under discussion. Not only between films and shorts, but between the man himself. The most impressive, most continued to David Lynch is his singularity – there was no one like him. No matter how you enter his artistic orbit, be it through this guide or a random fate, you want an adorable, insane, uncomfortable experience.
