Vikings work with Vikings and other NCAA

Augustana announced that the university is working with the Minnesota Vikings and five other NCAA institutions to start a new football league for College women flags. The participating schools include AU, Concordia College Moorhead, Gustavus Adolphus College, Bethel University, the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and University of Wisconsin, Stout.

As part of the partnership, the Minnesota Vikings (with the support of the NFL) will contribute 140,000 US dollars to support the league and its participating institutions.

“Football was a large part of my life in many ways, through my career as a band director, where on Friday evening I spent countless on the edge and as a current player with the Sioux Falls Snow Leopards-a semi-professional women-tackle soccer team here in Sioux Falls. When there was an opportunity to bring Flag football for women at Augustana University, I knew that I had to be part of it. This is an opportunity to build something special, to give women a new platform to compete, grow and lead. I am incredibly looking forward to this partnership and can hardly wait to see what effects this program will have on our players and the community, ”said Kiley Coyne, head coach of the Football team of Augustana Women's Flag.

The teams will compete this April in Jamborees at the University of Northwestern, St. Paul and the University of Wisconsin, Stout, on Saturday, April 26th, at the Championship tournament at the TCO Stadium in Eagan, Minnesota.

About Minnesota Vikings Girls' Flag Football

Since 2022, the Minnesota Vikings have supported the growth of the flag football of girls and women, increasing opportunities for athletes at the level of the middle and upper level and supporting the path for women in college.
