NYC shootings fall on 30 years of records when crime is urbanized, as NYPD data show

New York City broke a 30-year record for the slightest number of shootings in the first two months of the year, the police said on Monday.

Between January and February and February, the city saw 93 violations of weapons that have been less for these months since 1993, said officials.

The newly published NYPD statistics for February showed not only that dramatic shootings, but also a decline in serious serious crimes compared to the same month last year.

“In the first two months of the 2025, New York City has experienced the slightest number of shooting events in the past 30 years, and the third month in a row, in which two-digit crime category has decreased, prove that our comprehensive strategies for crime strategies work,” said NYPD commissioner Jessica Table in a statement.

According to the statistics, all seven major crimes with the exception of rape fell in February, led by murder and robbery.

The number of crime is good news for New Yorkers who get their security on the streets and U -Bahn – and probably for Mayor Eric Adams, who has seen his support in relation to scandals and concerns about his leadership.

NYPD officials and sources for law enforcement have attributed the general decline in crime of a return to bread and butter police work.

“Visibility, police officers on the street and the enforcement of laws – it goes back to the basics of which we know that they have always worked,” said one source.

The transit crime also fell by 15% in the middle of a top-class use of NYPD cops on subway trains overnight, said civil servants.

In February, 42 shooting incidents were recorded, which shows a decline of almost 21% compared to the same month of the previous year.

The number of shooting horses – 43 – in February, according to the data, also decreased by almost 43%.

Police officers attributed the rape increase of almost 22% to the latest changes to the laws that expanded the definition of crime to other forms of sexual attacks.

Flooded police officers in crime hot spots-a strategy, which is known as zone-based police work-and according to the overall crime, according to the sources.

“Our zone crime struggles are changing, nimble and reaction quickly – it enabled us to be more dynamic, and this is something we have done for years, so we have evidence that it works,” said the source.

“But we do police work. Conclusion. That is the key. “

Other sources attributed the decline in migrants who either flee to the city or were back to the city after the return of President Trump.

Moped Scooter robbery – a problem that the police connected to hiking gangs – have decreased in the past few months.

“There was a significant decline in scooter crimes/predatory and retail thefts, which was attributed to migrants,” said a cop in Queens. “You are afraid.”

“The word is out, there is a new sheriff in the city,” said a police officer in Manhattan.

“We see a significant decline in migrants. Many leave the city, go to Canada, Buffalo, Carolinas and Texas. We have also made a considerable amount of takedowns in the past few weeks. “
