2 firefighters recover after the fire of the Greenfield House

Greenfield, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Two firefighters from Greenfield relax after they were injured against a house fire on Sunday morning.

When the crews reacted to the School Street on Sunday, they pushed with strong smoke and an active attic fire with flames to the second floor. While the crews worked on the third floor, part of the house collapsed and two firefighters were caught under ruins. “It was a very close call. We are happy and grateful that the result was not catastrophic where it could have been very easy, ”said Robert Strahan, fire chief of Greenfield.

Strahan told us that the firefighters were able to free themselves and were brought to the Baystate Franklin Medical Center and were treated and released for minor injuries. A Mayday was proposed to draw attention to others before the scene when the crews also fought with the dangerous winter weather. “The temperatures that were low caused a large ice to do a large ice cream everywhere in the fire brigade scene, which made it for firefighters, their actions and the wind, treacherously, it was a factor for the speed and growth of the fire,” he said.

All employees were then ordered from the building and the fire finally loosened when the crews fought from the outside.

We were told that there were no residents inside, but the five residents were driven out. The two firefighters were treated for minor injuries and are now at home again with their families.

The cause remains examined.
