“Why did they do it during the day: 'The drivers question street work after the frustrating weekend traffic

Savannah, Ga. (WTOC) – Headache and frustration for drivers on the I -95 South this weekend.

The bridge work near the Ogeechee River forced the highway from three alleys to one and hours -long backup.

WTOC is working on getting answers about how this happened and talking to the drivers concerned.

A woman who was trapped in the delays on Saturday calls it the worst traffic she has ever seen.

The overload of 95 South extended from the Chatham/Bryan County line to the Pooler.

This is about 10 miles of down -to -down traffic.

Gdot said the crews had built in the area.

Drivers who were caught in deficit are wondering why street work apparently did not apply unannounced and during the day.

“Why did you do it during the day? I asked why they didn't do it at night. The fact that it took the whole weekend. Many people travel through Georgia on weekends. During the day it was only excessive traffic, ”said Rachel Saders, a driver who was in weekend traffic.

We have sent these questions to GDOT and are updated when we learn more.
