Gasleck calls for evacuations and closes ten streets near Fuquay-Varina

Fuquay-Varina, NC (WTVD)- A “important” gas leak has switched off all lanes from ten ten Road in both directions at US 401in Fuquay-Varina near Garner.

The people in the area were told that they are in place.

A city spokeswoman for Fuquay-Varina said the fire brigade started evacuations in a nearby Costco, Harris Teaer, Food Lion and other shopping centers and shops in the region.

First aiders and the gas company are on site to limit the leak that started around 4:30 p.m.

The drivers are asked to avoid the area. The city of Garner said that the police and firefighters reacted to a “considerable” gas leak and redirected traffic.

The Ministry of Transport by North Carolina estimated that the road would be closed until at least 6.15 p.m., but it probably seemed that the closure would extend beyond this time.
