The demolition of the former Duke Energy headquarters in Charlotte to start next month

The renovation of 250 million US dollars by Duke Energy Corp. According to Charlotte Business Journal, your next phase will start with the exterior termination next month.

The renovation project, which is known as Brooklyn & Church, includes the conversion of the 800,000 square meter office tower in 460 luxury apartments and 25,000 square meters of retail space. The project is expected to be completed at the end of 2026 or early 2027.

“Asana and Rockefeller are partners who share our vision for Duke Energy's former headquarters and believe in the positive effects that will bring luxury living buildings into a static office district,” said Pat Sullivan, Senior Vice President for acquisitions and asset management.

The development partners, which include the Charlotte Investment company Asana Partners, the Washington, the DC investment company MRP Realty and the New York developer Rockefeller Group, have ensured a building loan for the project, although the loan amount has not been announced.

The project will include tearing off the front lobby and atrium to reduce the total square meter number by around 230,000 and to make room for a new three -story retail building.

A 60-foot wide sidewalk is created to enable 360-degree pedestrian access around the site. Reed Kracke, partner at Asana, explained that the existing supply companies in the building are extremely accepted in order to prepare for the next work phase.

Asana and MRP bought the site in December 2022 for $ 35 million. The planning, the design and the previous development phases took about a year when Duke Energy prepared to move to his new headquarters on the Duke Energy Plaza.

The building from the 1970s was one of several properties that Duke sold to consolidate its uptown employees. Asana Partners is represented considerably in the region and has real estate such as the Design Center of Carinas and Cotswold Village and manages assets of over 7 billion US dollars in 24 cities.

The Brooklyn & Church project is a significant conversion of a former office space into a vibrant mixing use development that promises to improve retail and residential offers to Charlottes Uptown Area.
