Man who was convicted of shot death by Santa Maria Navy Veteran

The man who was convicted of shooting and killing a veteran of the Santa Maria Navy was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Monday.

In October 2024, Ron Tutay was convicted of the first degree murder for the death of Gerald William.

The shootout occurred on the evening of July 2, 2022. According to the public prosecutor, Tutay had been waiting for the sidewalk for over an hour before he shot Williams. After his arrest, Tutay reported that racist unrest used to refer to Williams who was black.

At the conviction, the deputy district prosecutor of Santa Barbara County County, Austin Ingalls, said: “Because of Mr. Tutay's actions, this country lost a patriot, two children have lost a father and this community has lost a friend.”
