Robertson County's tips to combat fraud texts

Robertson County, Texas (KRHD) – The sheriff of Robertson County Bill Reland gives tips on combating a recent increase in text fraud.

  • Number one: If something sounds strange or unusual, don't get involved.
  • Number two: If you happen to receive a fraud text, report it immediately.
  • The most common fraudsters in Robertson County are the tolls that are subject to tolls, Visa fraud and people who claim to work for the Sheriff's office to demand money.

“I understand things that are like that, the USPS is how you miss a package or whatever, and it's like, no, man, I know what I bought,” said Waco, wants to Brewer.

Fraud texts are now an ongoing problem in Robertson County.

“In our society it is very common that social media on the phone, text messages, there are only so many of them out there, and it is sometimes very difficult to recognize,” said Bill Ruland, Sheriff of Robertson County.

Leave our neighbors both frustrated and worried.

“Just last night I had something on my cell phone that my phone had been chopped, and it actually had the Apple logo that used it,” said Amy Gibson, based in Waco.

“There are some who definitely have.

The sheriff of Robertson County, Bill Ruland, tells15abc These fraud could lead to major problems if they are not treated properly.

“Basically, you will enter everything as far as your personal data and credit card numbers and all of these things there, and you will take your money out of the bank.”

So he shared some tips to make sure that our neighbors are not the next victims.

“I once learned that I thought I would get a free gift from Jennifer Garner,” said Gibson.

And number two: If you receive a fraud text, report it immediately.

“Not only like to enter your credit card number, that's crazy. Why should you do it stupid,” said Brewer.

Ruland says these are the current solutions, but hopes that we will find even better in the future.

“There is really not much what we can do about it, unless to document it,” he said.

“I wish we could have a better technology to catch it. Unfortunately we have not yet caught it.”
