Chase Konieczny makes history in Saint Joe, breaks the record of the older brother

South Bend, Ind. (Wndu) – You will hear a lot of encouragement from Chase Konieczny during practice.

The encouragement of the senior guard comes naturally. He grew up in a basketball family and watched his older brother Jr Konieczny, who is now playing for Notre lady.

“Only my brother trained me during my high school career and he brought me to where I am today and I'm grateful for it,” says Chase.

Last Friday evening against Mishawaka, Chase made his name by broke the record of his older brother to become Saint Joe's leading goal scorer while at the same time his 2,000. A career point reached, which made him only the second boy basketball player in County history to meet this milestone.

“I model my game a bit and just came to the high school, my brother told me before my first game that he should break his record and achieve 2,000 points,” says Chase. “I took that to heart and do my best to try to do what he said.”

It is the endless hours of training employees who have led chase to this point.

“It is a lot 3-against-3 and 5 against 5 and only a lot against each other to get better just to prepare for the games, and it helps a lot,” says Chase. “We climb into the weight room twice a week.”

His character, both on and outside the square, was a key factor for increasing this team.

“What words would I describe Chase Konieczny? A wonderful young man, a better basketball player and a great changing room type, ”says Eric Gaff, head coach of Saint Joe Boys, basketball coach.

In the end, Chase wants to leave a permanent legacy on the Saint Joe basketball.

“I want to leave my traces positively and only influence these teammates and keep the culture of this team,” says Chase. “Our culture is just motivation and hard work and practicing to practice every day and being prepared every day and simply being the best player you can be.”

Saint Joseph (20-3) will compete against Washington (16-7) in the first round of the sections on Wednesday evening. Tipoff at the Plymouth High School is set for 8 p.m. EST.
