AI-generated image of students who hold #Goutstalin poster becomes viral

Claim

School students organize #Getouttalin posters and protest against the Tamil Nadu Prime Minister Mk Stalin.

The archived version of the contribution can be seen here. The alleged photo was in the middle of the confrontation between the ruling DMK and the BJP compared to the Nep-2020 and its associated three-language policy, in which the dravidian main subject started the “Get Out Modi” campaign on social media, and the saffron party, which countered the “Get Out Stalin” campaign.

fact

News Schecker noticed that the hands of the students who held up the poster pointed to A-generated pictures when you consider that a hand seemed to go through the poster while another had six fingers. AI was notorious to render hands, which often led to the fingers distorted and unnatural, as can be seen in the viral picture. We have also found a watermark of “Grok”, a generative Ki-Chatbot, with which images can be generated in the lower right corner of the picture based on text demands.

We then showed the picture in the past of HIVE moderation, an AI image recognition tool in which it contained “96.8% probably with AI-generated or deeper content”. Another tool, including Sentgengine, found that the image was “99% probably generated”.
