When the South Korean schools started the new semester on Tuesday, the ambitious plan of the government must introduce digital textbooks with artificial intelligence. The Ministry of Education showed that the adoption rate remains only 33 percent, with administrative and technical hurdles slowing the implementation.

During a press conference on Tuesday, an official of the Ministry of Education said that the nationwide circle of KI -Digital textbook last Friday was 33 percent, which was almost unchanged by the 32.4 percent registered on February 20. The ministry confirmed that the financial figures for each region are announced as soon as the schools are completed their administrative procedures.

In order to fully integrate AI textbooks, the schools have to take several steps before implementing the national education information system, including the registration of their selected AI textbooks, the entry of class plans and the update of the academic records of the students. These administrative processes mean that pupils and teachers may have to wait a week or two before they can actively use the digital materials.

Despite the delays, the Ministry of Education expects a much more smooth process next year, whereby the officials plan to complete the academic operating plans by February and to simplify the administrative procedures.

In order to address potential technical problems, the government has set up a comprehensive reaction center that includes a central call center and an intelligent request system to monitor and solve problems in real time.

In the meantime, the incumbent president and finance minister Choi Sang-Mok emphasized how important it is to ensure a smooth transition for important educational reforms, including the digital textbook system for AI, to expand the all-day initiative “Neulbom School” and to say goodbye to a loan hour for high school, which is a larger selection in their courses make possible.
