Edwardsville IL, SiUe discuss new fire brigade agreements

In the resolution, a 10-year agreement between the city and the SIUE will enable the city to be provided by the city for $ 406,000 for the 2025 financial year. The annual fee will increase by the landlord of 4% or the amount acquired by the General Assembly, but no less than 2% for each year.

“This is a new thing that we have been working on for a long time,” said Jeff Berkbigler, Edwardsville public prosecutor. “For a long time we no longer had an agreement with SiUe for fire protection and ambulance services.”

The two sides have worked on an agreement since the previous one ago.

“When we annexed it, we had an annexation agreement. According to law, these are limited to 20 years. Our agreement ran down, which should offer fire protection services for the campus. Since the conclusion of the agreement, we have been working with SIUE officials and state representatives to work out a solution, ”said Berkbigler. “Any other state university in Illinois has a contract with its local fire brigades.”

In the past three to four years, the city has rely on an oral agreement with SiUe for the services.

The new agreement is based on the between Siu Carbondale and Carbondale.

“This agreement basically is based on what Siuc receives from the city of Carbondale, even though it only provides a fire reaction. You do not drive an ambulance. The ambulances are carried out there by the Jackson County Ambulance Service, ”said Berkbigler.

“We offer double services for a larger number of students and a larger property. There are no oranges to be oranges because sometimes there are older buildings and more employees. “

The SIUE campus comprises 2,400 tomorrow compared to the SIUC campus of 1,136 acres.

According to SiUe, the registration for autumn 2024 was 11,893. Siuc had an enrollment of 11,790.

The agreement was made by the city's employees, including Mayor Art Risavy, with SiUe and Chancellor Dr. James T. Minor negotiated.

“It is a victory for both sides,” said Berkbigler.
