German police officers examine racist chat messages

The police in Hamburg said on Tuesday, 15 civil servants, including some who have retired since then, are examined because they have sent and receive racist news in group chats.

A total of nine apartments in the north German city were searched early Tuesday, with numerous electronic devices being confiscated as evidence.

The investigation was launched after two officers reported and received news that “racist” and “glorify violence and National Socialism”.

The other examinations examined took part in the chats “to different degrees”, the police said.

Disciplinary proceedings are underway against all 15 former and current officers between the ages of 4 and 61.

According to reports, they come from Hamburg's regular police department, known as a protective police and the water police.

The examination is carried out by the Hamburg police authority, which is responsible for complaints and disciplinary matters.
