Just like SC, Georgia is facing a serious risk of fire, warn officials

Atlanta, Ga. – South Carolina has attracted the most attention to forest fires, but the threat is just as real in Georgia.

Georgia's executives say, although there is currently no burning effect in the game, Georgia is in red for the month of March and the leaders predict a considerable fire potential.

The National Weather Service gave up a high risk of fire for parts of Northern and Central George and warned for the entire state of Georgia at the weekend, as gusty winds and low humidity.

According to Larry Thomas, fire chief of Fannin County, the crews worked around the clock.

“We have been very busy in the past three weeks when it comes to brush fire and leaf fires that are out of control due to the low humidity,” said Thomas.

According to Thomas, most of the fires were caused by burning outdoors.

“It is one of the worst times that are currently burning in the burning of garden waste, leaves, twigs and limbs and such things,” he said.

Wendy Burnett from the Georgia Forestry Commission said that between February 24th and Sunday, March 2, they reacted to 490 forest fires.

She says the forest fires burned almost 6,200 acres.

“We expect this to be a very busy march,” said Burnett. “We expect this to be a longer event.”

She says that the crews answered 137 fire during the red flag warning on Saturday.

“Our boys were ready,” said Burnett. “You did a phenomenal job. They attacked the forest fires aggressively. They were able to burn the hectares considerably. “

Thomas says he sends this message to the community: “Please don't burn if you don't have to.”

The Georgia Forestry Commission has indicated that it has issued combustion permits due to the dangerous conditions in certain counties.
