Greg Saney illustrates the attitude to the possible schedule of the 9-game conference of SEC

Greg Saney was a vocal lawyer for the SEC in the past, which is transferred to a 9-game conference plan, but made some interesting new comments on this topic on Monday.

Saney admitted that it is not an easy problem to solve it because the schools weigh up a variety of factors.

“If you look forward to our way forward, we consider the next few months to be really important to collect information and talk about opportunities or obstacles that could possibly be in the way, as far as we can answer that,” said Saney during a appearance in the Paulinbaum show. “How does the priority of the bowl qualification in the future have? This is still an important topic.

“It is really important to understand how the selection committee made decisions for the CFP. And one of the problems in the room for our sports directors is what seemed to be most important, the number on the right. The number of losses. And how do we understand what this means for our schedule? I am one who said: I really think we should try to move to a 9-game conference plan. I think that can be positive for many reasons … but not if we lose the possibilities. “

Saney refers from the selection process for College Football Playoffs from last autumn. In this exercise, the 3-loss alabama was left out of the field in the 1st year of the 12-team CFP in favor of an 11-2 SMU team. Some have found that the extension to 9 conference games could open the league more situations like this in the future.

In the near future, Saney expects further information on how CFP decisions are made by the selection committee.

“I think it is important to understand how selection decisions are made,” added Saney. “And we only have 1 year of this experience if we make another decision on our schedule.”

Here is a clip of Sankey's complete comments on the matter:

There were also discussions about the college football playoff structure, which changed by a certain number of auto bids for the Sec (and other conferences). This change could be made in 2026 if the SEC will play a 9-game schedule for the first time.

The final decisions for the CFP 2026 and the SEC 2026 schedule are expected to be made in the coming months.
