Acton Fire puts new equipment in operation

Acton fire chief Anita Arnum is pleased to tell that the Acton Fire Department has officially put new equipment into operation.

Fifty (50) self -contained breathing devices (SCBA) units were officially put into service on Sunday, February 23, and some were put in action on Wednesday, February 26, during a house fire in the early morning.

Acton Fire also received additional related devices, including batteries, replacement masks and chargers. Each department member was assigned his own personally adapted mask.

The units are 3M Scott X3 Pro-SCBAs with integrated wireless radio functions and integrated pass (Personal Alert Safety System). These units enable firefighters to communicate with members while they can breathe clean air during an active fire brigade scene.

The equipment was bought with approved city financing. Lieutenant Robert Smart supervised the procurement of the new equipment and exchanged the old equipment onto the entire fire brigade, the recording, cataloging and labeling of each article. He also organized an apprenticeship about the new equipment of the seller – Fire Tech – for all department members. The Acton Fire Training Division made sure that each layer had the opportunity to train the new equipment before it was officially put into operation.

“This new equipment enables our members to offer our community members a safer and more efficient service during the calls,” said Chief Arnum. “I would like to thank our taxpayers and community members for giving us this urgently needed financing. This equipment is used practically every call to which we react. Therefore, we can have the opportunity to offer the public the highest level of service on current and modern tools. “
