Firefighters react to a number of weekend fires in Colleton County

Colleton County, SC (toilet) – In the middle of a series of forest fires that were triggered to a nationwide fire ban, Colleton County firefighters had a busy weekend to react to two structural fires and a forest fire.

From early Saturday, a family in Smoaks on the 1600 block of the Cherokee Drive was sold out of her house when Flames overtook the structure.

The crews answered shortly after 4:45 a.m. that day after the family woke up and found that it was already burned onto the roof.

The family left the house safe and called 911.

Firefighters arrived at the scene to find that the house took serious damage to the fire when the flames were visibly burning through the roof.

The crews quickly worked on attacking the fire and blocked it to spread to the southern end of the building, a double mobile home with an addition.

Firefighters found a family dog when searching in the building. “Unfortunately, the animal was beyond help,” said officials in an release.

After the crew was killed that the animal was dead, they bury the dog for the family.

Fire investigators believe that the flames have started to supplement the house, possibly a room heating. The fire then spread into the attic.

The house was badly damaged and most of the family were destroyed.

Two children were rated on site, but did not need hospital treatment.

The units remained on site for three and a half hours.

The American Red Cross supports this family.

Later in the day, shortly before 1 p.m., the crews were called to the Calloh Drive and Cottonwood Lane area after a resident reported on a “quickly moving forest fire”.

Firefighters say that dry conditions in combination with heavier winds spread slightly through the thick forests and quickly threatened near houses.

The crews demanded the forest commission for support and received help through two brushcases and a tractor, so that they could cut fire lines around the flames and contain them before the fire could damage all houses.

The units remained on site for four hours. Firefighters say this is just one of the many forest fires they had to fight at the weekend.

On Sunday evening, the crews noticed a column of thick, black smoke and decided to try to find the source.

Around 6:30 p.m., the crews found a comprehensive semi -detached house in Valiant Lane, south of Sniders CrossRoads.

At the scene, firefighters found that the fire had burned over a longer period of time. Most of the building had already collapsed.

The investigators found that the house was not occupied and believe that the fire was caused by the spread of a forest fire in the area. Units stayed at the scene for three hours.
