Maren Schettler's story is one of resilience, determination and power of the human mind. After a devastating car accident during her first semester, and Schettler stood a long and challenging recovery. But with unshakable determination, she returned the following autumn.

Despite the physical challenges, Maren remained and. She followed her passions and studied English with minors in music and political science. She worked as an editor of the Floodwall Student Magazine and as a writer for the Grand Forks Herald.

She found community and support in the Chi Alpha Student Organization and shared her musical talents as a flutist with the Red River Trio, who even traveled abroad with the group.
