The reason for optimism as a Florida football begins this season.

play

  • Florida Gator's football coach, Billy Napier, enters his fourth season with a squad that shows more depth than in previous years.
  • Quarterback DJ Lagway returns for his second season after taking over the starting role at the end of last year.
  • The Gators will have a newly respected corps and several early participants who compete around the season.
  • The Gators will hold their annual Orange Blue game on April 12th.

While football in Florida begins on Thursday in the fourth year of spring exercises under Billy Napier, the squad continues to develop as he imagined.

In all position groups there is more depth, length and speed, of which Napier hopes that the Florida Gators achieved an 8-5 season in 2024.

“We have the right mix, a veteran example and newcomers who choose to be here,” said Napier. “So, it's a big, long, fast group and seems to get along quite well and work properly.”

Florida will have a total of 15 workouts and practice in the swamp every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday to the Orange Blue game on April 12th at 1 p.m. The UF will take a week free for the spring holidays from March 16 to 23.

In contrast to other programs across the country that canceled or changed their spring games, Florida plans to play a full spring game at this time.

Here are five lines of action that you can pay attention to this spring for UF:

What will the repetitions of the first team look like in practice?

As an early participant last spring, Lagway took the repetitions with the second team behind the incumbent starter Graham Mertz. It is now Lagway's team after leaving 6-1 as a starter and led on a winning streak with four games to close the season while Mertz was traveling with a torn ACL.

In its first year, the 6-foot 3, 239-pound lagway showed a rifle arm as a starting quarterback from UF with an average of 16.7 yards per completion, while they were connected with six TD passports of 25 yards or more. Overall, Lagway went in a successful study season for 1,215 yards with 12 TDs to nine interceptions. The big key to Lagway as a second year will concentrate on further reducing its mistakes and at the same time determining more of a double threat element of his game. Lagway hurried only 101 yards without TDS last season.

Can Florida Football QB DJ Lagway set up chemistry with a new group of recipients?

Florida lost two of his start recipients – Elijhah Badger and Chimere Dike – last season, while recipient Marcus Burke switched to UCF and Arlis Boardingham switched to Bowling Green. At this point it is unclear whether Eugene Wilson III will take part in spring exercises after hip surgery last October.

J. Michael Sturdivant, a transfer from the UCLA, offers a potential big goal for Lagway with 6-foot 3 and 205 pounds. Sturdivant had 22 catches for 215 yards and two TDS for the Bruins last season. \

In the meantime, the Freshman Wide Receiver will receive the early participants Dallas Wilson (five stars, Tampa Bay Tech), Vernell Brown III (four stars, Orlando Jones) and Naeshaun Montgomery (three stars, Miami Central), to establish chemistry with Lagway this spring.

How will two new coaches affect the Florida football defense?

Florida commissioned Washington Safeties coach Vinnie Sunseri as a replacement for Austin Armstrong and becomes the co-defensive coordinator of UF and coach for security care. Sunseri was taught under Nick Saban as a player and assistant in Alabama and under Bill Belichick as Running Backs coach at the New England Patriots.

Secondary coach Will Harris left UF unexpectedly last month and was quickly replaced by Arkansa's Secondary Coach Deron Wilson, who worked under Napier in 2022 as a quality control assistant.

Sunseri and Wilson will have their first chances of connecting to the players of UF. The Florida secondary level showed a significant improvement with regard to the forcing of snack bars under Harris (10 interceptions, four forced fiddling, two Fumble recovery in 2024). Wilson will try to continue this upward trend in 2025.

What early participants are in 2025 for football in Florida?

Of the 25 incoming first semesters of UF, 19 registered early and will take part in spring exercises. Last season, the early participant, which Jadan Baugh ran back, stood out a strong spring by hurried in the spring game 2024 of UF 77 YARDS 77 YARDS.

This spring, Wilson, Brown and Montgomery get the chances of flashing on broad recipients. On the defensive side, Cornerback Ben Hanks Jr., Edge-Rusher Jayden Woods and Safety Hylton Stubbs are all national recruits of the top 100 recrles that are worth keeping an eye on the eye.

Two other fascinating early participants who can be seen are all-purpose back Waltez Clark and Quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., who will fight with Louisville Harrison Bailey for snaps during backup quarters.

Who will land the last starting place in the Florida Football offensive line?

Florida returns to four starters in the offensive line.

This lets the right Tackle launch order after Brendan Clenshaw-Dickson graduated. Kamryn Waites (6-8 343 pounds) took two starts at the right tackle last season and was able to perform as a leading candidate. UF is also high in redshirt in the second year Bryce Lovett (6-5, £ 317), who started three games at the right guard last season, but has the position of the security guard and the attacks of spots. Florida could also choose to move George back to the right, where he started in 2023, and to start Lovett or wait on the right guard.

Redshirt Sophomore Caden Jones (6-8, 327 pounds), Redshirt Senior and Arkansa's transfer Devon Manuel (6-7, 319) and Redshirt Neuling Fletcher Westphal (6-8, 321 pounds) are three more duels that can also increase their roles in the offensive line.
