Tengiz Oilfield expansion in Kazakhstan begins with a new 3GP start-up

A joint venture guided by Fluor has completed the future growth project (FGP) on the Tengiz Oilfield in Kazakhstan and marked the beginning of an expansion of crude oil production.

This development is a result of the collaboration between Fluor, Worley, Kazakh Institute for Oil and Gas and Kazgronefetrans Engineering Company, which has offered a comprehensive range of services for the Tengiz Oilfield operator Tengizchevroil (TCO) since 2011.

TCO belongs to Chevron (50%), Kazmunaygas (20%), Exxonmobil (25%) and Lukoil (5%).

The new third generation work (3GP), which was built in Tengiz, one of the “largest” and “deepest” oil fields in the world, is a key component of the FGP.

The start of the operations at 3GP is expected to lead to a gradual increase in crude oil production in the coming months. The annual crude oil production of TCO is predicted that all facilities reach around 40 million tons (MT).

Mike Alexander, President of the Fluor Energy Solutions Business, said: “reaching the first oil is a significant performance and we congratulate the TCO team.

“Fluor has supported TCO in the past 14 years and has been active in the Republic of Kazakhstan since 1982 and works on projects that have shaped the oil and gas industry.”

In January 2025, Tengizchevroil began crude oil production from the 3GP within the oil field Tengiz.

The project not only contributed to the increase in oil production, but has also focused on promoting a sustainable economic future for the local community.

As part of the project, initiatives were launched to develop local talents through training programs at schools and universities that aim to prepare for craft work and professional engineers.

In addition, the project is intended to improve Kazakhstan's skills in various sectors, including engineering, high-tech equipment maintenance, project management, construction and production.
