BBB officially gives financial tips before the wedding season.

Quincy (WGem) – Spring is approaching, which means that the wedding season is around the corner. An official of the local Better Business Bureau gave some tips to help committed couples navigate on the financial side of the wedding planning.

Last year, almost 5,000 wedding service complaints were submitted to the BBB. The regional director of Quincy BBB, Don O'Brien, said that they are mainly due to inferior service or provider that were not underway.

The wedding sellers include venues, photographers, videoographers, music and clothing, to name just a few. In view of the fact that many expenses are put together at a successful wedding, O'Brien said that reviewing providers is of crucial importance.

“Depending on where you get married, it could be one day on the low thousand dollars on the high-end thousands of thousands of dollars for this one day,” said O'Brien. “So you really have to make sure that you connect with good providers to ensure that the day runs smoothly.”

While he worked with providers, he added that couples should quickly make smart decisions, since many providers are booked up to or a year in advance.

At the same time, he advised to jump into things without real research.

O'Brien said he should ask potential providers for references.

“Ask you if you can talk to other couples. A reputable provider lets you speak with what you want to speak to if you will be behind your work, ”said O'Brien.

He also asked for couples to carefully read the contracts of the sellers. Sometimes there may be fees within the contracts that pass by if they are not carefully combed. Some providers could charge extra if they bring their own cake or alcoholic drinks.

“Really read all of these things, because the last thing you want to do is think that you will pay” X “number of dollars for an event location, and then you will find things in the contract – but you didn't read the contract,” said O'Brien.

Payment of a partial number before the wedding is an acceptable and standard practice. But O'Brien warned whether a seller asks for full payment in advance to check other options. He said it could be a sign of a non -trustworthy service.

“If the provider asks you to pay the entire amount in advance, this should give you a break,” said O'Brien. “Because if you give you all the money, what is your incentive to appear on the day of the event? It is a bit reduced. “

O'Brien first recommended a deposit and ended the payment after completing the service.
