The new law of Florida requires improved background reviews for school volunteers

Jacksonville, Fla. – A new law of Florida is now in force, which is prescribed that volunteers carry out improved background reviews to ensure the safety of students.

The law, which was signed during the legislative meeting of 2023, officially came into force on March 1st.

The new requirements apply to both new and existing volunteers who work with students.

Previously, volunteers had to carry out a background check of level 1, which is only named. However, the new law requires volunteers to carry out a background examination of level 2 that is based on fingerprints.

A background check of level 2 in Florida is a comprehensive review of the criminal background, which checks for serious criminal convictions such as violent crimes, sexual crimes and drug -related crimes.

This process uses fingerprints to search both state and federal databases and offer more thorough screening.

This is how the school process for the school works:

  1. Volunteers must first complete a process of level 1.

  2. The school then calls for a fingerprint for the volunteer.

  3. As soon as the fingerprint is printed, the results are sent to the school.

  4. If the volunteer eliminates the background check, he will receive a photo ID badge of level 2.

  5. Level 2 screening is valid for five years.

Duval County School's headmaster, Dr. Christopher Bernier, addressed the new requirements at the school authority on Tuesday evening. He said that the guidelines about accusations of school employment are updated to comply with the law.

The extended background reviews aim to provide the students an additional security level and ensure that volunteers meet the necessary standards for work in schools.
