Viral video captivates Bobcat Hunt in Yosemite – with unsuspecting tourists stuck to their phones

A remarkable video of a Bobcat hunt in the Yosemite National Park has become viral, but not only because of the impressive representation of nature in action. Instead, a large part of the online discussion concentrated on two unsuspecting visitors who were glued to their phones and the wild predator was just not aware of, only foot away.

The film material, which was originally published in the R/National Parks Subreddit, shows that the Bobcat goes along a promenade before jumping into the grass to catch his prey. In the meantime, the two visitors remain fixed on their screens behind the Bobcat and do not seem to notice their surroundings.

Many commentators expressed frustrated about the lack of awareness of tourists.

“I will never understand why these kinds of people go to national parks at all,” wrote a user. Another added: “Every time I see something like this, it reminds me to put my phone away.”

The National Park Service asks visitors to stay at least 25 meters from wild animals and 100 meters from large predators. The respect of these limits ensures the safety of animals and humans. With increasing habitat loss and human interventions, awareness and responsible parking behavior are more important than ever.
