Southeasters Football calls David Mertens General Manager

Hammond, La. – David Mertens has been appointed general manager of the South Heasters' football program Louisiana University in the SLU boss chief football coach Frank Scelfo Announced on Wednesday.

Mertens was the director of the program of the program of the program in 2024. In his new role, which is pending by the Supervisory Board of the University of Louisiana system, Mertens will work closely with Scelfo and monitor all aspects of the daily processes of the program.

“We are pleased to name David our first general manager,” commented Scelfo. “David is a key member of our employees and has a firm understanding of our culture and expectations for our program. We expect David to play an important role in navigation through the constantly changing landscape of college football.”

Mertens will lead the evaulations of the current roster and the future prospects of the Lions. He will also assist on team trips and coordinate the program's operating budget.

Scelfo sees Mertens' role to organize all aspects of the team's autumn camp on the right foot for the season. Mertens will also serve as a connection with the professional leagues and help to make the gates of the current lions easier to achieve the NFL, CFL, UFL and European Football League.

Mertens will also monitor the program's civil service efforts, since Slu football continues to keep the expectations of the Southeasters athletics of excellence in the community, in the classroom and in the competition.

The SLU opens spring practice on March 11th and will practice on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday during the spring exercises that run until April 12th. The 2025 season begins on August 30th when the Lions travel to Louisiana Tech.
