Does Governor Desantis have something left to Florida?

When I, like governor Ron Desantis on Tuesday, indicate his state of the state speech, I couldn't help but ask myself: Which state does he live in?

Desantis gave some of the greatest failures in Florida as achievements, from the politicization of public health to his incompetence in the government. It was a brazen representation of revisionist history and self -control. And it turned out that Desantis, at less than two years, before he is referred to from office, is pathetic with a diverse, developing state whose people have to struggle with kitchen table problems.

Let's take this line: “Florida is the leading guide among the states because we support ourselves in challenges, tackle big problems and provide results for people.” What does he talk about? Floridians have asked legislators to take into account the exploding real estate insurance costs for years. Desantis and his Republican legislators blamed against insurers for rising premiums for a long time. But last month, the Times/Herald announced that a state report that had never been seen beforeed that insurance companies claimed to lose millions, while their partner companies earned billions. The report was created in March 2022 months before the legislator met in emergency sessions to make it more difficult to sue insurance companies.

Or this line: “Restrictions on the power of the government are important to preserve freedom.” This by a governor who has redefined the executive authority in the worst way of the chosen officials, whom he does not like to chair on the Honors College of the state. Desantis is far from respecting the restrictions on power and has moved methodically to expand the reach of the government. During its tenure, the state specified local authorities, targeted college courses, mined diversity and inclusion programs and limited voting rights and open government. The government's reluctance is only A topic of conversation in Tallahassee, not in the politics or practice of the state, which is why Floridians have fewer freedom today.

I could go on, but the point is that Desantis has a distorted view of where to take our leadership, which does not promote trust in the future. To be fair, these annual addresses of the State States are giveaways with which the governors check and shine their political legacies. But on Tuesday it was more about things that don't play a role than things that do.

Desantis, for example, spoke that Florida was a refuge of “mental health” during pandemic, without mentioning that he as a governor hired the state. He painted his administration as a bulwark against state waste, road shots and “harmful ideologies”, but his party has checked the state spending and Florida's political direction for almost 30 years.

He praised that Florida had “the lowest number of workers in the state government per capita in the country” without mentioning that Florida also provides advantages when providing fundamental public services such as the provision of poor children and unemployed. In this sense, the governor wasted this address by recycling bogeymen and complaints instead of offering a clear direction for his remaining two years.

This means that the legislature will probably lead the way to reforms of real estate insurance, condominium ownership and other front Burner issues. The house has already signaled its intention to investigate insurers and to counter the condominium associations of financial burden in order to fulfill their legal obligation to finance costly repairs. But that leaves many Press concerns in the floating, from climate and tax policy to the environment, education and older care.

The address on Tuesday was a review and a Kirchier snapshot. Desantis was pleased in a remarkable way and emphasized the work of his wife Casey to connect the needy Floridians with non -profit organizations, as it could be widespread that she could be to fulfill him as a governor. Floridians earned more and better from an incumbent who has many unfinished work on his plate. As the governor himself said on Tuesday: “Watch the people in Florida.”
