Florida approves the preservation of more than 1500 acres of land in Putnam County – 104.5 WOKV

Putnam County, Florida – Governor Ron Desantis and the Florida Kabinett approved the protection of 34,595 hectares of hectares of nature reserves on Wednesday.

The preservation of these countries was largely possible as part of the Florida Forever program. This includes a local package in Putnam County.

1,541 Acres were acquired within the Etoniah-Cross Florida Greenway Florida Forever project.

The Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway will combine with other nature reserves in the Florida Wildlife Corridor. The state says that it will also charge key land and groundwater conductors that flow into the rivers Ocklawaha and St. Johns.

In this country, several endangered and endangered species houses, including Florida Black Bears, Gopher turtles, sandhill cranes and sip-tail kite.

“The natural beauty of Florida enriches the life of everyone who calls it at home, and I thank Governor Desantis and the Florida cabinet for their leadership in protecting the environment of our state for future generations,” said Alexis A. Lambert, Secretary of Environmental Protection Florida, Alexis A. Lambert.

Other land acquisitions announced today are listed below:

  • 21,625 Acres within the Watershed project for Watershed Watershed for Forever in Levy in Levy County
  • 7,548 hectares of great preservation in the Ranch Reserve Forest Florida Forever Project in Oscola County
  • A combined 3,881 acres within the Caloosahate-Big-Cypress corridor in Collier and Hendry Counties

Two of these properties are located within the Caloosahatchee-Big-Cypress corridor and reinforce critical Everglades and Florida Panther Habitat.

“Preservation of Florida thanks governor Desantis, the cabinet, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Department of Environmental Protection because they continue critical land acquisitions to protect the wildlife corridor of Florida and both our wild and our agricultural landscapes,” said Traci Deen, President and CEO of Conservation Florida. “The approval of these land offers supports endangered wild animals, protects important water resources and helps to preserve Florida's rich agricultural heritage, at the same time strengthen local rural economies and save environmentally friendly spaces. Today is another big victory for land protection and the protection of the places that keep Florida wild. “
