Drive-Thru ash Wednesday events for Lent in Connecticut expansion

Rocky Hill, Conn. – The congregation church in Rocky Hill has joined a growing trend for ASH Wednesday. The church has decided to offer “Ashes2Go” to observe the first day of Lent.

Pastor David Figliuzzi has been in the Rocky Hill Congregational Church for two years. He said “Ashes2Go” was “for people who may not have the time to take part in a full service.”

“You can come over and take a moment to think about everything that is Wednesday and what this ashes conveniently mean for you,” said Figliuzzi.

The word about social media did not bring the word long until a series of cars was formed when the clock entered at noon – dozens of people wanted to get their ashes.

“This (effort) shows that we are from the People community and in the community,” said Stephanie Heneghan, a member of the council in the congregation church, and then added: “And it is expanding our circle safely.”

Figliuzzi noticed that his church held a full evening service to let go of Lent and watch the ashes on Wednesday, but the “Drive -Thru” ash was a creative way to spread its word.

He said: “Everyone has a different time they can give, and that's why we want to offer this out of convenience – not to water down the meaning of the moment – but to achieve more people.”
