Woman who dies from Cook County Sheriff's Vehicle published identity

A pedestrian who was hit by a sheriff patrol car of a sheriff from the Cook County in the early Tuesday morning has died, the authorities said.

According to GlenView Police, the crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. in the 9800 block of the Milwaukee Avenue.

The pedestrian identified as 28-year-old Mercedes Smith from Chicago was brought to the Lutheran General Hospital, where she was originally listed in “stable but critical” condition. The police confirmed that Smith died of her injuries on Wednesday.

The GlenView Police Traffic Unit examines the crash with the support of the Major Crash Assistance team of the Regional Regional Major Crimes Task Force. The Cook County's Sheriff has explained that it is working with the ongoing investigations.
