Valencia Boys' Volleyball Wins League Opener at HART to start the title defense

Roundup: West Ranch wins in Sweep, Canyon wins in four to start the league game

The Valencia High School Boys' volleyball team started its title defense of the Foothill League on Tuesday with a street victory at the Hart High School.

The Vikings (8-3, 1-0) swept the Hawks (0-3, 0-1), 25-19, 26-24, 25: 7, at the Hart High School in a match, in the Valencia head coach of the second year, Brendan Riley, closer than the Sweepe, which would specify.

“I want us to do better (different things), but I'm glad that we get victory in the first league game,” said Riley in a telephone interview on Tuesday evening.

The Vikings won their first league title in 2024 in nine years, but Riley believes that his team has to do with a few new faces that lead the team. Valencia made it to the championship game of CIF Southern Section Division 4 last year, in which the rival of the West Ranch High School League won in a Sweep win.

“We are a completely different team than last year,” said Riley.

Valencia returned the Foothill League MVP, Senior Libero Nathan Willis, last year, while Junior Dylan McFatridge and Junior Gavan Miranda did well, said Riley.

McFatridge had nine kills while Miranda had nine kills.

“We had many options for the transition and we were able to run our Middles quite effectively,” said Riley. “And so I was happy about it.”

The Vikings had just finished a 5-1 trip in Las Vegas in the tournament game, and Riley believed that his team had drained his foot off the gas. He added that it is not great to see that, but it can be a learning opportunity for his team.

Hart is looking for his first league victory since the 2023 season, in which the HAWKS League and CIF titles recorded.

“Hart improved a ton,” said Riley. “I know that you went in the league (Winless) last year, but you won't do that this year. You will surely win some games. And their defense was good, their services was good. So you will win a few games this year. ”

The Hawks were listed by AJ Casillas '11 Kills and Jharem Domingos nine and two asses.
