Mid-Penn Conference Winter All-Stars released, 28 area athletes selected

The Mid-Penn Conference released its All-Star selections from the winter season this week, and there are no shortage of athletes from the Local.News1 coverage area on that list.

We counted 28 local selections, including six who landed on the First Team.

Chambersburg’s JJ Kelly and Waynesboro’s Rayshawn Frazer-Hewitt highlighted a group of eight locals who were selected as boys basketball All-Stars. Kelly, whose Trojans are still alive in the state postseason, was named First Team in the Commonwealth Division in a season where the senior is averaging 22.9 points per game as a Top 4 scorer in the Mid-Penn. Frazer-Hewitt, a junior who averaged 12.3 points per contest this season, was a First Teamer in the Colonial Division.

Kelly and Frazer-Hewitt were joined by Greencastle-Antrim’s Carter McCauley (2nd Team) and Alex Albright (3rd Team), Chambersburg’s Colton Cornwell (3rd Team) and Landon Buhrman (3rd Team), and Waynesboro’s Alex Torbica (3rd Team) and Farin Parks (3rd Team).

On the girls basketball hardwood, Tribe junior Breanna McIlquham was selected First Team in the Colonial Division following a campaign that saw her average 17.5 points a night. She was joined on the Colonial squad by Greencastle’s Meadow Gambacurta (2nd Team) and Waynesboro teammate Braelynn Pearson-Moore (3rd Team). Riley Evans, of Chambersburg, was a Third Team selection in the Commonwealth.

On the wrestling mat, Greencastle-Antrim was honored with the Sportmanship Award. There were 12 individual selections from the Local.News1 area, including Commonwealth Division First Teamer Ashton Romberger of Chambersburg, who wrestled to a 33-10 record this winter with 19 falls. He was joined on the Commonwealth list by teammates Frank Barrientos (2nd Team), Zach Sherman (Honorable Mention), Zethan Sleighter (Honorable Mention), and Jaccob Stoner (Honorable Mention). Selections for the Colonial Division include Waynesboro’s Jayden Rooney (2nd Team), Calvin Myers (2nd Team), Anthony Ausherman (2nd Team), Wyatt Lowans (Honorable Mention), Brady Mansfield (Honorable Mention), and Logan Smith (Honorable Mention), and Greencastle’s Chance Zimmerman (Honorable Mention).

Finally, the Mid-Penn released one girls wrestling All-Star team for the entire conference, and Chambersburg’s Reagan Evans and Aulana Stanton were both First Team selections. Evans, a freshman, was 29-5 this season with 20 falls, while sophomore Stanton posted a 27-3 mark with 12 pins. Waynesboro’s Annabelle Tracey and Kenadee Shockey were both Third Team selections in the Colonial Division.
