CHP examination of motorway shooting in Contra Costa County

Orinda, California – officers who were assigned to the Contra Costa office of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) examined a shootout from the Autobahn, which took place on the western State Route (SR) near Wilder Road.

On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, around 10:27 a.m., the officials who were assigned to the contra Costa office of the CHP area were sent in a report on a possible shootout on Autobahn on SR-24 near the wild road overview. During the response to the scene, the officials were informed that a vehicle that drove in the area at the time of the incident was hit by a ball. Fortunately, the victim was unharmed.

Contra Costa CHP official arrived at the scene to help the victim and to initiate an examination. To make a thorough assessment easier, all lanes of the SR-24 were temporarily closed for about 50 minutes in a west direction between Camino Pablo and the Caldecott tunnel.

During the first examination, the CHP officials found that the victim vehicle was an uninvolved driver at the time of the shootout and was not an intended goal.

This remains an active and ongoing examination, whereby the CHP officials work hard to identify the participants and to identify the vehicles involved and to establish a potential motif.
