De Soto ready for housing, business boom despite the Panasonic opening date

De soto, can. – The target opening was in this pen for the Panasonic Electric Vehicle (EV) battery system in de Soto, Kansas,.

Officials say that the system is expected to create 4,000 jobs and could bring thousands of residential units to the region.

KSHB 41 turned to Panasonic spokesman to confirm the timeline this week and received an e -mail in which it was found: “We cannot definitely say how the date was not set.”

They also said that they should know more in the next few weeks. Johnson County and de Soto tell KSHB 41 that they are still confident in the spring time bar.

In this project there is a lot at stake, which is connected to the local economy.

“This would not be a 6,500-person city for a long time,” said Alex Waller.

A growing de Soto had Alex and Lindsay Waller decided to move there and open their own business, the natural weapon.

“I think it's a net positive as a resident,” said Waller.

De Soto officials said that their latest data estimates are currently around 2,300 residential units in de Soto. This estimate also shows that 2,500 residential units are taken into account in DE. The mayor said this number comprises zoning applications and incentive requests as well as those actually under construction.

“We need more houses, Sherelle Witt, a resident, broker and owner of Oasis Nutrition in de Soto.” We need more people, we need more people to shop in the community and to be part of the community.

Tim Holverson, President of the Chamber of Commerce of De Soto and Economic Development, said that the city was ready to continue growing what Panasonic has.

“Since you have more roofs, as you have more people, she brings the radar for more, you know, retail, commercial possibilities,” said Holyson.

And while Waller hopes that the city can hold its charm, he knows that it is a sensitive balance with such a big change on the barrel.

“I have the feeling that the change is a net positive for the city,” said Waller.
