Jack Draper plays 'Best Match' to defeat 'Amazing' Taylor Fritz and reach the Maiden quarter-finals in Indian Wells

In a close first set, British No. 1 only found a breakthrough on the serve of his American opponent in the 11th game – 6-5 before sealing the opening set with a hold to 15.

“It is the best game that I played here in the three years in which I was here,” said Draper after his 7-5 6-4 victory. “There were a few moments here and there when I was brave about which I talked to my coach before the game.

“Taylor is such an amazing player, so I'm very proud of it.”

In conversation with BBC Sport, Draper added: “It is the first time that I played against someone like Taylor and had the feeling of dominating the match.

“I would like to play against the best players in the world so that I can show what I am.

“I think I can beat everyone and play a great tennis. It's just about doing it more and more, which gives me more belief.”

The gold medalist of the Olympic Games in Tokyo took the Abu Dhabi Trophy in February for her first cutlery since his mother and has had a strong form since returning to sport.

Her Australian Open Run ended in the last 16 of Gauff, but the Swiss star revenge this defeat with a 3: 6-6: 6: 4 victory against the American in California, who scored a quarter-finals against Melbourne-Champion Madison Keys.

“Of course, they practice and work hard all their lives and therefore work super nice to play in this kind of atmosphere,” said Bencic in their interview on the pitch.

“The way they cheered before the game … I had shaking frost and goosebumps and simply put the serve into the yard because I was so nervous.”

Aryna Sabalenka also secured her route up to the last eight, while Jasmine Paolini No. 6 fell against Liudmila Samsonova – and suffered in Bagel in Bagel in just 20 minutes before fell in the second 6-4.
