Before Logan Stormtracker became, he served Oklahoma as a firefighter and continues to offer tips on preventing fires.

What you can do to prepare

  1. Store every firewood or everything that can prove to be flammable from your home if possible.
  2. Hold water in an emergency. For those who live in rural areas, access to water can be limited in the event of a great fire.
  3. Get an emergency kit if you have to leave your home. Make sure you include clothing, medicine, food, water or objects that are required for a longer period.

What should know in the event of a fire

If there is a running fire, do not underestimate how quickly the flames can spread.

Logan said in 2024 that the running fire in Ellis County spread over 11 miles in 45 minutes and was pushed by severe wind speeds in the area, which also hindered the air control efforts.

According to Logan, the Oklahoma Forestry Service says that wind speeds of over 40 miles will force the agency to earth.

Make sure to search for possible evacuations in the event of a running fire.
