Investigation in Connecticut leads to the recall of Zaarah Herbal's powder: civil servants – NBC Connecticut

According to the State Department of Consumer Protection, a callback for the powder of Zaarah Herbals was issued after an examination in Connecticut has determined a significantly increased lead and inorganic arsenic.

The department said that an investigation by the Food and Standards Division of the Department of Consumer Protection and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station had led to a recall of Food and Drug Administration for Zaarah Herbals products, which were produced and distributed by the New York Wholesale Group.

The analysis of samples from DCP from several Zaarah -Herbalen powder found that the products were found that the products contained the products that were significantly increased, increased levels of lead and inorganic arsenic.

The following products are included in the recall:

  • Zaarah Herbals, Bhringraj Powder, 100 g (3.5 OZ) (UPC: 6 35028 99973 1)
  • Zaarah Herbals, Gurmar powder, 100 g (3.5 OZ) (UPC: 6 35028 99969 4)
  • Zaarah Herbals, Vasaka powder, 100 g (3.5 OZ) (UPC: 6 35028 99967 0)
  • Zaarah Herbals, Rasayan Churan, 100 g (3.5 OZ) (UPC: 6 35028 99966 3)

The universal product code or UPC can be found on the back of the bottles.

The clear 100g glasses with a gold duct were distributed between December 20, 2024 and January 7, 2025 to retailers in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and California.

“Many thanks to our great team in the Food and Standards Division and our partners at Caes, DPH and the FDA for their constant efforts to ensure that products are safely consumed on Connecticut's shelves,” said DCP Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli in a statement. “The analysis and collaboration of the team with state and federal partners are of essential importance for the protection of the consumers of Connecticut and, in this case, have also helped consumers in our neighboring countries.”

The Department of Consumer Protection said that exposure to high lead, a heavy metal, including anemia, seizures and coma, can cause and which can vary depending on the exposure, age or body weight. They said that the consumption of inorganic arsenic had been associated with cancer, skin lesions and cardiovascular diseases. People who are pregnant are the most endangered chronic exposure.

They said that no diseases have been reported to this day.

Consumers who have these products should not consume and give them back to the place of purchase in order to receive a complete refund.
