New music video offers archive material from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers who perform a classic song by The Troggs

Tom Petty Estate debuted a brand new music video for Petty and the inspired live-in-the-studio cover by The Heartbreakers' Inspired in 1966 from 1966 “Wild Thing”. Tom and his band recorded the song in the famous Los Angeles Studio The Record Plant while he was shot for the French TV show Houba Houba.

The audio of the cover “Wild Thing” was published in 2024 as part of the Deluxe new edition of Petty and the 1982 album by Heartbreakers Long after darkness. The video was staged by Justin Kreutzmann and contains a newly restored film material from Tom and the band, which performed the song in the record work, as well as previously invisible film material by director Cameron Crowe while making the documentary from 1983. The band's bonus film material contains scenes in the concert, travel to a tour bus, participation in a radio interview and the bypass during the video shoot “You Got Lucky”.

Kreutzmann, whose credits include a variety of rock documentary films and concert films, found the son of Grateful Dead, Bill Kreutzmann.

“Wild Thing” was written by Chip Taylor and recorded in 1965 by the New York City Rock Band the Wildes. The British band The Troggs published its version of “Wild Thing” in 1966. Advertising board Hot 100 for two weeks this summer.
