The Ministry of Justice opens up criminal investigations into migrant accommodation in New York City, according to reports

The Migrant Shelter Operation in New York City is examined by the US Ministry of Justice, which has examined the administration and financing of the hotels, which has been accommodated by hundreds of thousands of foreign migrants since 2022.

The New York Times quoted a copy of a summons searched for by the Hotel Chandler, on the “a list of the full names of the foreigners who currently live in Hotel Chandler” that the prosecutors also asked for birth, nationality and identification numbers. This summons referred to “a alleged violation” of the Federal Immigration Act and called for information about those who were responsible for the “financing and administration of the illegal program for migrant/migrants protection” together with related agreements or contracts, reported the Times.

The investigation marked an escalation of the Ministry of Justice under President Donald Trump, who scolded so -called sanctuary cities and promised to carry out the country's largest deportation.

Since the spring of 2022, more than 230,000 foreign migrants have arrived in New York City, a majority of which were accommodated in emergency shelters, hotels and tents in the nation under the mandate of the city.

When asked about the summons, the spokesman for Adams, Fabien Levi, wrote: “We cannot comment on federal investigations.”

Last month, the Trump administration took over 80.5 million US dollars from the city's bank account about the money that had been approved by the congress to reimburse the city for the protection costs. Newsday reported data in the past year that the immigrants themselves could use to carry out deportation.
